Cirrus Gallery is pleased to present The Jackleg Testament - Part One: Jack & Eve.

The Jackleg Testament: Part One - Jack & Eve consists of two remarkable and interrelated bodies of work.  The first is a portfolio of 40 woodcuts that contain the visual elements - characters, objects, scenery - that are shaped into a fantastical narrative by the artist.  The second is a 67-minute film based on that narrative, featuring animation by Bolotin, as well as a richly textured operatic sountrack that he also composed.

Containing his characteristic allusions to art history, literature, religious scripture, and personal mythology, both film and portfolio help to reinterpret the Biblical tale of Adam and Eve.

Described by Kris Kristofferson as "one of the three best songwriters in the country," Kentucky native Jay Bolotin is an accomplished musician whose compositions have been lauded by, among others, Merle Haggard, Dan Fogelberg, and Porter Wagoner.  He continues to perform regularly, giving concerts in the United States and abroad.

In addition to several private collections, his artwork can be found in the New York Public Library, Georgia Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary (San Diego), Seattle Art Museum, National Museum of Australia (Camberra), and Cincinnati Art Museum.  The artist has also been awarded fellowship grants from the Ohio Arts Council and MacDowell Colony.
