We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition of new paintings by Jerry Brane. The exhibition will open Saturday, April 3rd and continue until May 29th. The artist, through a passionate quest for the knowledge of self, has fused intellect and paint into a rudimentary language of feeling and expression. Jerry Brane is openly - and vulnerably - exploring his own, very personal, life path. He sees a metaphoric relationship between his path and computer, "techno" paths where electrical connections come from and through the earth (or from the sand of a computer chip) and result in higher level understanding or "intuition". The paintings here reflect the distilled process of a human creating a visual work, the human as the "technology" driving the process. A refreshing combination of defiance and naivete underlies Brane's particular approach. In some of the pieces, Brane has laid electrifying yet strangely natural colors over more neutral backgrounds. In others, like the large painting titled: "My Mother's Path (left), My Father's Path (right), My Conception (center), My Path (1964)", light, eerie "paths" are laid out on deep, darker, earthlike backgrounds. The effect in both is one of beautiful strength coming from true, consistent and deep self-revelation.
