Opening on March 18th, 2006, Cirrus Gallery is pleased to present recent paintings from Heather Brown, Jacob Stewart-Halevy, and Jonas Wood. Bringing together these three Los Angeles based artists for the first time, the exhibition explores a renewed interest by emerging artists in revisiting historical genres and traditional models of painting. Re-thinking the genre of landscape, Heather Brown, Jacob Stewart-Halevy, and Jonas Wood explore a renewed enthusiasm for paint handling, inventive image making, and spatial experimentation.
Heather Brown received her MFA from UCLA in 2002, and BA from UCSB Center for Creative Studies in 1999. Her work has been exhibited at various venues including Black Dragon Society: Los Angeles, Carl Berg Gallery: Los Angeles, and Healing Arts: New York.
Jacob Stewart-Halevy is currently an MFA candidate at UCLA and received his BA in Philosophy from UC Berkeley. His work has been featured previously at Cirrus in Fineline, an exhibition of new drawing, and he will take part in Drawing Conclusions, at Chapman University.
Jonas Wood received his MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Washington in 2002, and his BA in Psychology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. He has had solo exhibitions at RAW & CO: Cleveland and assorted group exhibitions in Los Angeles at Black Dragon Society, Anna Helwing Gallery, Champion Fine Art, and Shoshanna Wayne Gallery.
