Cirrus Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new monoprints by Jonas Wood. This is the second printing project Jonas has done with Cirrus. Also on display is a series of hand painted silkscreen basketball prints created at Jonas’s studio. Thirdly, a selection of Cirrus archive prints curated by Jonas. Celebrating 40 years of Cirrus printing history, works include Matthew Brannon, Ed Ruscha, Mark Bradford and John Baldessari.
The new monoprints depict plant life with traditional Greek pots. While Jonas’ paintings can be much more complicated, the monoprints are sparse, simplified still lifes. Loose experimentation with the monoprint is celebrated by playful drawing techniques. The inspiration for the drawings stems from a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2007. “I started making drawings at the Met with a ballpoint pen on hotel stationary, focusing mostly on Greek vessels as well as Oceanic and African objects.” The exhibition will be on view from November 2010 through January 1st, 2011.
