Cirrus Editions is pleased to announce the release of Jonas Wood’s “Aechmea Bromeliad Poster”, the workshop’s third co-publication with WKS Editions.

The edition is a 26-color, 42 3/8 inch by 30 3/4 inch lithograph that takes as its initial source an archive of posters featuring Aechmea bromeliads - a tropical plant that often makes a recurring appearance in his work, among other plants and objects sourced from his everyday life.

Not too dissimilar to John Baldessari’s “Raw Prints”, which are a direct reference to the fundamentals of art, including color, composition and form, “Aechmea Bromeliad Poster” also pays homage to the process of image making, and specifically that of Wood’s.

The large-scale print, which is almost completely enveloped by 81 beautifully drawn bromeliads, takes us on an encyclopedic tour of the artist’s potential source material. An Aechmea brueggeri, for example, might be seen in a future painting, while an Aechmea recurvata might be spotted in a print. As we navigate these sources, we also become witness to the breadth of Wood’s drawings, which, with the Aechmae bromeliad as their subject, provide us with a small survey of his inimitable mark-making and distinct application of color.

Jonas Wood was born in Boston, Massachusetts and currently resides in Los Angeles. Recent solo exhibitions include Plants and Animals, David Kordansky Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2022; Four Landscapes, Pace Prints, New York, NY; Four Tennis Courts, Gagosian, New York, NY, Gagosian, Central, Hong Kong 2019; the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX; and Jonas Wood & Shio Kusaka: Pots, Plants, and Sports, Masahiro Maki Gallery, Tokyo, Japan. His work can be found in a number of permanent collections, including the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Guggenheim Museum, New York; The Broad, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. In 2019, Gagosian and Rizzoli published the first monograph of Wood’s extensive print career. A new catalogue raisonné of Wood’s prints will be released in 2023.
