Cirrus is excited to introduce Windows, a new physical and virtual pop-up project space as part of Cirrus Gallery & Cirrus Editions, Ltd. Referring to both physical windows as well as the browser windows, this project reimagines how and where we interact with the presentation of objects, goods and services. In a time where our professional and social interactions increasingly take place in a virtual space, what is the function of windows?
For the first iteration of Windows, Los Angeles based artist Thomas Linder installed a work in the gallery's storefront. Linder’s work, although visually and materially influenced by the light-based and Finish Fetish movement, originates in his upbringing around his family’s greenhouse business in Minnesota. Another Dimension Please (2019), contains two layers of fiberglass that, held together by a basswood frame, create an ongoing dialogue between light and color–depending on the time of day. The immediate environment of the work determines its outcome. With the ongoing safer at home notion, this installation invites you to safely venture out and take a break from the screen.
Thomas Linder (b. 1986, Saint Paul, Minnesota) currently works in Los Angeles, California. Linder Received his BFA in Sculpture and Community Arts from Kansas City Art Institute in 2008, and his MFA in Sculpture from Bowling Green State University in 2011. He is Co-founder of the Los Angeles artist-run gallery, BBQLA. He has exhibited nationally and internationally.
